Brief information on Zhanshan Temple
Situated at the eastern foot of Taiping Hill on Qingdao’s West Xianggang Road, Zhanshan Temple is the only Buddhist temple in the urban area of Qingdao. It was built from 1932 to 1945.
Zhanshan Temple has five rows of buildings in its courtyard, including the Main Hall, Hall of the Three Saints (Sansheng Hall), Palace of the Heavenly King, guest rooms and a library of scriptures that holds 6000 volumes of sacred texts. On both sides of the temple gate, there are two stone lions from the Ming Dynasty. A lotus pond sits in front of the temple and serves as a place to free captive animals. In the east of the temple, a seven-floor brick pagoda stands twenty meters high.
Zhanshan Temple faces the Yellow Sea to the south, and is surrounded by Fushan Mountain, Zhanshan Mountain and Taiping Mountain in three directions. In summer, the green trees shade the temple grounds and the sea breeze blows gently. Zhanshan Temple is a particularly good place to visit in autumn when the leaves appear dyed with vibrant colors.
In 1982, Zhanshan Temple was designated as a cultural relic under municipal protection.
