Sanya has turned into a major tropical resort destination in Asia from a small costal county in just a decade. In July 1st, 1994, Sanya Phoenix International Airport started to operate. In 2008, 6 million travelers flew in and out of Sanya by plane. It was connected to mainland China railway system in April 18th, 2007. There are direct trains reaching Sanya from some major cities in China like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Changsha. The Circular Hainan Express makes traveling to and from Sanya by road convenient. Sanya has successfully attracted major cruise lines to port in the recent years.
