Brief information on Shanghai Stadium

Shanghai Stadium is one of the largest open-air stadia in China and is endowed with advanced, modern facilities.   Covering an area of 190,000m², this fantastically modern and slightly surreal construction has taken its place one of Shanghai’s principal landmarks. The roof of the building resembles snow capped peaks on a mountain range and is shaped like a saddle.

Shanghai Stadium is used for soccer matches, track-and –field events, and cultural or sports events. It served as one of the venues for the football matches of the Beijing Olympic Games in the summer of 2008. It holds a 500-seat presidium, a 300-seat press box and 100 luxury balconies. It has a seating capacity of around 56,000.

It is a spectacular and inspiring venue and is well worth a visit-even for those with no particular interest in sport. It also houses restaurants and bars-including China’s first ’Boxing Pub’, where patrons can have a drink and take part in a boxing match all in the same night.

*You can download the bilingual note to show it to a taxi driver or someone else to find your way to Shanghai Stadium if you plan to visit Shanghai Stadium and have language problems.
