Brief information on Songqingling ’s Former Residence  

Song Qingling¡’s Former Residence is located at No. 1843 Huaihai road, Shanghai, the place where she once hung up her hat, played the field, and engaged in the state affairs. The entire courtyard occupies an area of 4,330 square meters. Camphor trees surround the house, adding some elegance and tranquil atmosphere.

The whole residence is a three storey western-style brick and wooden structure. There is the living room, dining room and studio on the first floor and the second floor has Song Qingling’s bedroom, office and the nursemaid, Li Yanei’s bedroom. At the present time, the living arrangement is all kept intact.

Song Qingling was born in Shanghai in January, 1893. She followed the great revolutionary forerunner Mr. Sun Yatsen and contributed her lifetime to the Chinese people, working for democracy and the socialist enterprise, promoting awareness of world peace and the advancement of technology. She is one of the founders of the People’s Republic of China. She passed away in 1981 in Beijing at the age of 90 years old.
