Cathay Theater, opened in January 1932, is located on the hustle and bustle of Huaihai Road. Once part of millionaire Victor Sassoon’s holdings, the art-deco theater shows a mix of Chinese and Western films. In 2003 it underwent an extensive renovation which added two extra screens. It continues as a first run cinema screening a mix of Chinese and Western films.
