Shenyang Travel Guide - Brief Information on Shenyang

As the Provincial Capital of Liaoning Province, Shenyang is the biggest city in Northeast China (Dongbei), and is considered the  most prosperous metropolis in the region. Shenyang is located in the south of the Northeast Region and occupies an area of 12,942 Square Kilometers. Including the floating population, Shenyang has a population of more than 10 million.

Shenyang is world famous as both a historical and cultural city and is such named due to its location north of the Hun River. As one of the birthplaces of the Chinese nation, there has been a human presence here since the Stone Age, some 7200 years ago. In 1625, Emperor Nurhachi established the capital in Shenyang, and changed its name to “Shengjing”. In 1636, Hong Taiji built up the Qing Dynasty here, naming it “Qing”. Shenyang Imperial Palace, the Palace of Early Qing Dynasty, is one of the most integrated palaces in China.
 
Education, technology and industry in Shenyang have developed t a fast pace. At present, Shenyang is considered as the cradle of construction of New China. Meanwhile, it has also gotten various nicknames such as environmental protection city, National Forests City, National Garden City and Most Blessed city of China etc.
 
Shenyang is the biggest traffic center in the Northeast, with a developed highway system, and with coach connections to Beijing, Tianjin, Changchun, Harbin etc. daily. In addition, as the biggest and most important transportation hub in China, Shenyang is the intersection of five routes and connects to 8 lines leading to all parts of the country. It also serves as an international gateway to North Korea and Russia.
 
As the biggest airport in the Northeast, Shenyang Taoxian International Airport is located in Shenyang and has flight connections to 58 domestic cities, and some international including Korea, Japan, Russia, America, France, and Austria, etc.
