Brief information on East Mausoleum

Located on the uplands of Northeast area of Shenyang city, and about 11 kilometers from downtown, East Mausoleum is the tomb of Nurhachi and his empress and built in 1629. It occupies an area of 500 hectares. In 1651, East Mausoleum was finished, later reconstructed by Emperors Shunzhi, Kangxi and Qianlong. The tomb synthesizes the traditional architecture and Manchu architecture, and is very different from other tombs of Shenyang.

East Mausoleum has two specific characteristics: The first one is that you have to climb 108 steps from the front entrance door to the steel building. The second one is that the whole building changes with the undulation of the slope, which looks very majestic. Although East Mausoleum is much smaller than North Mausoleum, it is especially attractive due to its two characters above. So, when people visit the East Mausoleum after returning from the North Mausoleum, they won’t feel a great similarity between them, since both have their own features.
