As one of the best preserved and integrated palaces, Shenyang Imperial Palace was built in 1625 A.D. and occupies an area of 60 thousand square kilometers. It has been the most important and specific attraction in Shenyang. In 2004, Shenyang Imperial Palace was listed as a cultural heritage site by UNESCO.
Most of the displays in Shenyang Imperial Palace are cultural relics left by the old palace, such as the sword used by Nurhachi, or the broadsword and chair made of deer horn of Hong Taiji. There are also abundant artworks in the museum, including pottery, sculpture, lacquer and textiles.
Located in the center of Shenyang, the Imperial Palace served both Nurhachi and Hong Taiji, the inaugurators of Qing Dynasty. There are more than 100 buildings and 500 rooms. Although it is much smaller than the Forbidden City of Beijing, it has its own characteristics which are different from the Forbidden City. Over the years, Shenyang Imperial Palace has attracted more and more people from home and abroad.
