Shenzhen Subway

Shenzhen is the firth city in mainland China to operate the metro system along after Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Opened to public on December 28, 2004, Shenzhen metro is planned to establish totally eight lines to convenient the passengers at the city. Since the first phase of the project has been finished, there are 2 subway lines (Line1 and Line 4), 20 stations and 21.8 km of total trackage putting into use at present time. After the complement of the existing and new lines, the metro system will reach a total length of 177 km by 2011.

Line 1 of the metro runs places between Luohu and Window to the World, a hottest tourist attraction in Shenzhen. Every 5 minutes, there is a train departing from platform during the peak hours and 6 to 10 minutes at other time. It passes by 15 stations from east to west. Line 4 offers transport service from Huangang in south to Shao Nian Gong in north, passing by Fu Min, Hui Zhan Zhong Xin and Citizen Center. The trains at the line 4 operate at 10 minutes frequencies at all times. As there are electronic signboard systems, passengers could know clearly the estimated train arrival times.

The fare rate depends on the sections each of which includes fives stop stations. Generally speaking, CNY 2 is charged for the first three stop stations and CNY 1 is added for the new section. And the whole journey of the line 1 will cost CNY 5. Shenzhen metro runs ranging from 06:30 to 23:00 commonly. And it may prolong to 24:00 during some holidays and festivals.
