About 25 kilometres Southeast from Suzhou city, Luzhi Ancient Town is considered one of the six classic water towns in Southern China. The water town is named after Luduan (unicorn), a mythological animal often credited with the power to ward off evil.
Teeming with rivers and bridges, Luzhi is also called Bridge Town, as it is home to 41 bridges of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, including large stone bridges with several arches, small stone bridges with one arch, wide arch bridges, narrow flat-top bridges and sister bridges.
In addition, the traditional dress of the local women is extremely attractive. They typically wear colourful hoods, pieced clothes and trousers, embroidered satin shoes, all of which characterise them as clothing of the local minority people.
Rambling around the ancient town, enjoying the elegant sights, appreciating the bridges and various scenic spots will afford visitors a unique and relaxing cultural experience.
