It is the strategic ingress point for Beijing and acts as a barrier for Tianjin, playing a vital role in the defense system of northern China. Dagu Kou Emplacement witnessed China’s resistance to Western colonial forces at the end of the 19th century. It is regarded as a heroic symbol of China’s fight against foreign invasion. It is regarded as a place of pilgrimage to inspire patriotism and nationalism.
