Brief information on Geographic Center of Asian Continent  

The “Centre of Asia”, the geographic Center of the Asian Continent was determined in 1992 to be located in the Baojia Caozi Village, Yongfeng town, Urumqi at the longitude 87°19’52” east and the latitude 43°40’37” north. It was determined with cooperation from a host of academic institutes worldwide, including: Xinjiang Institute of Geography, China Academia Sinica, academics from European Universities, cartographers and remote sensing researchers.

A symbol tower was built at the geographical centre. The tower stands 18 meters high, supported by four posts all in the shape of “A”, referring to the English word “ Asia”. Now there are several rural highways that run to the centre. The gate is a spatial grid structure and is about 20 meters high. There is also an Asian Center Square, which gathers totem crafts from the 49 Asian countries; stone statues, woodcarving and fiberglass carvings to name but a few. This area is the furthest place on earth away from any ocean, and this lends to this scientific monument an aura of natural mystique.
