Brief information on International Grand Bazaar  

The Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar was completed on June 26, 2003. "Bazaar" means market in the Uygur language. It is the main channel of communication and means of person-to-person commercial trading activity in Xinjiang.

The International Grand Bazaar is one of Xinjiang’s main places of interest. With a total area of 100,000m², it is the largest bazaar in the world. Built in the traditional Moslem style, the buildings show distinctive ethnic and folk culture, such as No.1 Sightseeing Tower, Erdaoqiao Mosque, Banquet-Performance Grand Theatre, Merry Square and Sunny Pedestrian Street.  Upon completion, the Grand Bazaar has drawn widespread praise, winning such awards as "New Top Ten Landscapes of Urumqi" and“Ten Top Buildings of Urumqi.”

The Grand Bazaar is the biggest distribution center of ethnic handicrafts in Xinjiang, the biggest trading center of ethnic Arcanum and carpet center, and well-known Dry Fruits Center, Jade Article Center, Snack Center and ethnic Carpet Centre.  

The Grand Bazaar is also an artistic palace, housing various ethnic cultural relics including those of the Han, Uygur, Hui and Kazak peoples. It brings together the arts of song and dance in Xinjiang, as well as Chinese food culture.   Visitors can enjoy ethnic cultural performances while sampling delicious Xinjiang food in the Banquet-Performance Grand Theater which can accommodate 1000 people. ?Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar is the world’s window on Xinjiang, and remains, to this day, a door to travel and trade.
