Taibo Temple is the cradle of early Wu culture. Three thousand years ago, the capital of the Wu state was set up in Meili (now called Meicun Town in Wuxi’s Xishan District). The Wu state was the first civilized state in ancient south China. Taibo Temple is a place to offer sacrifices to Taibo, the founder of the Wu state. The ninth day of the first lunar month is Taibo’s birthday, and locals hold a traditional festival to celebrate.
