Brief information on Taihu Lake

Taihu Lake is one of China’s Five Freshwater Lakes and is located on the border of Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province, covering an area of 2,338 square kilometers. In the lake there are 48 islands, which are known as the “Seventy-Two Peaks” together with the peaks and peninsulas along the lake. Among them, the most notable ones are East Dongting Hill, Western Hills, Majishan Island, Sanshan Island and Yuantouzhu, which form an imposing natural picture ---- hills beyond hills and lakes beyond lakes.
On the banks of Taihu Lake, the famed Wuxi Scenery, Suzhou Gardens, the historic sites of Wu State and karst formations are all present to form the famous Taihu Scenic Area, which consists of 13 scenic spots and 2 separate attractions among which 8 scenic spots are in Suzhou; 5 scenic spots and 2 separate attractions are in Wuxi.
