Wuxi History
Six thousand years ago, ancient people began to live and work in the Wuxi area, creating the brilliant Majiaban, Chongze, and Liangzu cultures. Early 6,000 years ago, the ancestors in Wuxi began to live and work in this area, and created brilliant ancient cultures like Majiabang Culture, Chongze Culture, Liangzhu Culture, etc. At the end of the Shang Dynasty, the eldest son of King Tai of the Zhou Dynasty settled down in Wuxi and was regarded as a rulerthe sovereign by the local people. When the Shang Dynasty ended and the Zhou Dynasty began, King Wu of the Zhou Dynastywas ended by Zhou Dynasty; King Wu of Zhou Dynasty granted Zhou Zhang the title of Wu Jun and established the state of Wu State. The cultures of Central and Southern China then blended and the Wu culture was formed with Wuxi as one of its cradles. Since then, the culture in central China and the culture in south China were blended. And then the Wu Culture was formed. So Wuxi is one of the cradles of Wu Culture. During the Qin Dynasty, Wuxi got its name. In the Tang and Song Dynasties, Wuxi was a wealthy city that served as an important economic center and a major agricultural region was a rich place. It was not only an important economic city but also a main agricultural region. At the end of Qing Dynasty, national capital industry appeared in Wuxi, and the city mainly produced silk and food. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China was built, Wuxi was a directly governed by city of Jiangsu Province. In 1984, Wuxi was rated as one of the top ten cities for tourists became one of the Top Ten Tourist Cities in China.
