Yangshuo County, located in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and just to the southeast of Guilin City, is situated on the western bank of the Li River. It is 65 kilometers from Guilin city, and 445 kilometers from Nanning, which is the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Under its administrative jurisdiction, there are 6 towns, 3 townships and 114 villages. About 13 ethnic groups including Han, Zhuang, Yao and Hui dwell in Yangshuo County, with a total population of around 310,000.
In Yangshuo County, the peaks rise one after another. The terrain is complex, with various types of medium, low and rocky mountains, hills, and tablelands and flat land.
Yangshuo has an abundance of natural resources.The thousands of mountains and hills contain metallic minerals such as lead, zinc, copper, iron, bauxite and mercury, and non-metallic minerals including limestone, barite, marble, cinnabar, clay, and river sand.
Yangshuo County is well connected by highways to Guilin, Liuzhou, Nanning, Beihai, Wuzhou and Guangzhou, and the waterways reach to Guilin, Yongle, Wuzhou and Guangzhou. This makes getting to and from Yangshuo fairly simple and making travel to other Chinese cities, or foreign cities, by train or plane from Guilin or Nanning, an easy task.
