Yantai Travel Guide - Brief Information on Yantai

Yantai is located in the east of Shandong Peninsula, which is surrounded by sea on three sides and faces Dalian City across Bohai Gulf. The city is composed of four districts - Zhifu, Fushan, Mouping and Laishan - as well as Changdao County, and it administers seven county-level cities - Penglai, Laiyang, Haiyang, Longkou, Laizhou, Zhaoyuan and Qixia. Zhifu is the central district.

Yantai is a medium-sized port city, endowed with wonderful landscapes, a winding coastline, scattered islands, and gentle, charming scenes. With four distinct seasons and a mild climate, it is neither too dry and hot in summer nor too cold in winter. Yantai is famous for its splendid scenery of hills and water as well as its food including fresh fish, fragrant grains, and fruit. Yantai’s local cuisine is often called Menzi and Lu dishes. The city’s delicious seafood attracts millions of people every year but Yantai is also rich in vegetables and fruits.

Yantai was the starting place of the ‘Silk Road on the Sea’ and today is a booming site for modern Chinese industry and postal affairs.

The city has been awarded several prizes: UN Habitat Scroll of Honor Award in 2005, One of the Most Civilized Cities in China in 2005, and China Top Tourist City in 2004.
