Yinchuan Travel Guide - Brief Information on Yinchuan
Compared with other major cities in North China, Yinchuan is a paradise of fresh air. As the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, it has a population under a million. Its tree-lined streets are still relatively empty, with a reputation of being one of the quietest cities in China. Yinchuan has also escaped the fate of poverty associated with this province by having the good fortune of being a distributary of the Yellow River and having an irrigation system which was first built during the Han dynasty.
Over a third of the region's population is Hui (Chinese Muslims), and over a half live in the capital, contributing to a cultural diversity less apparent in other Chinese capitals. This is regarded as an easy town to spend time in for a few days. Hotel rates are low, the food is delicious, and most of the sights are within walking distance or accessible by bus or taxi.
The best time to visit Yinchuan is between May and October. Though summer temperatures soar greatly, the dry climate makes even the hottest days bearable. From June 16 to June 22, Yinchuan holds its annual Motorcycle Tourism Festival. Having convenient transportation, Yinchuan is well-connected. Airlines and railways connect the city with most major cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Lanzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan and Urumqi.
