Yiwu Travel Guide - Brief Information on Yiwu
Yiwu is a rapidly rising trade city in the middle part of Zhejiang Province. It also comes under Jinhua City. With an area of about 1105 square kilometers, Yiwu includes 7 street committees named Choucheng, Choujiang, Beiyuan, Jiangdong, Houzhai, 23 Li and Chengxi, and 6 towns which are Dachen, Suxi, Shangxi, Yiting, Fotang and Chi’an.
Yiwu has a mild and humid subtropical monsoon climate. Four seasons are very distinctive with a yearly average temperature of about 17 degree Centigrade. July has the highest average temperature of 29.3 degree Centigrade and January has the lowest average temperature of 4.2 degree Centigrade. Yiwu enjoys 243 frost- free days a year and it gets an average rainfall between 1100 – 1600mm annually. Yiwu has a long history. In Xia and Shang Dynasty, Yiwu belonged to Yangzhou. During Qing Dynasty Wushang County was established and its territory covered present Jinhua city, a part of Lishui city and Taizhou city. During Tang Dynasty, the county was renamed Yiwu and in May 1988 Yiwu county became Yiwu City.
Presently, Yiwu is a city based on the market famous for the small wares. Yiwu is also called ’the Sea of Small Wares’ and’ the Paradise of Shopping and Tourism‘. Moreover, there are many other attractions in Yiwu. For example, the Shuanglin Iron Pagoda made in 952, the Old Moon Bridge built in 1213 etc.
