Baoshan Overview: Baoshan is also called Lancheng. It was first named Baoshan in 1524. Baoshan city was governed by Nanzhao State in the Tang Dynasty and Dali State in the Song Dynasty. It is located in the southwest of Yunnan Province, bordering Burma in the south and northwest, with Dali to its east, Dehong to its west and Nujiang to its north. The city is about 500km from Kunming. The whole city occupies an area of 19,637 square kilometers, with a population of 2,430,000, ninety-six percent of which are minorities. Baoshan city is made up of Longyang Districtand four counties: - Shidianm Tengchong, Longling and Changning County.

Baoshan Climate & Weather: Baoshan city is located between 98°25′~100°02 east longitude and 24°08′~25°51′ north latitude. It is located to the south of Hengduan Mountain. The whole terrain extends from northwest to southeast with the highest altitude at 3880.9 meters, and the lowest at 535 meters. More than ninety percent of the terrain is mountain or quasi-mountain areas. The complex and varied terrain lead to seven climate types in the city: north tropic, south sub-tropic, north sub-tropic, central sub-tropic, south temperate, central temperate and plateau. The weather here is moderate throughout the whole year, but varies greatly throughout the day. The average temperature in Baoshan range from +8.2°C during the coldest month to +21,0°C during the hottest month, with an annual average temperature of +15.5°C. It is the true “spring city.”
Language in Baoshan: Most people in Baoshan speak the southwestern dialect, which is a subbranch of the northern dialect.Minorities have their own separate language.
Baoshan Transportation: As an important transportation hub, Baoshan is 486 kilometers from Kunming. The main means of transportation is by air and car.
By Air: The Baoshan (Yunduan) airport is 9 kilometers from Baoshan’s Longyang District. There are flights to and from Kunming everyday. Flight time is about 50 minutes. There are also direct flights to Guangzhou through Kunmingeveryday.
Besides the Baoshan (Yunduan airport), Tuofeng Airport, which is located in Tongcheng County, was built in 2008. There are several flights from there to Kunming every day, which last around 40 minutes.
By Bus: There are bus routes to other cities that rung along the 320 highway from Dali to Baoshan, such as Dali, Lincang, Dehong, and Nujiang. Bust travel is also convenient for traveling to Baoshan’s counties: Tengchong (5 hours from Baoshan), Longling, Shidian, and Changning. The famous Stilwell Road also links Tengchong to the capital city of Kachin State in Burma.

Baoshan Food: Local delicacies include Yongcheng salted preserved duck, Nounao “pot”, Tengchong crock chicken, and fried sasa.
Specialties of Baoshan include jade article, rattan weaving product, Chinese Xuan Paper (for painting and calligraphy) of Tengchong County; Arabica coffee bean.
