Zhangjiajie Overview: Zhangjiajie City is located in the northwestern part of Hunan Province and sits on the junction of Yungui Plateau and Dongting Lake. It is about 398 kilometers from Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province. It connects Shimen, Taoyuan County in east, adjoins Yuanling County in south, and neighbors Hefeng, Xuan’en County of Hubei Province in north. The city has jurisdiction over Yongding, Wulingyuan districts and Cili, Sangzhi counties. It covers an area of 9,563 square kilometers and had a population of Zhangjiajie about 1.639 million according to 2008 census. Zhangjiajie is a city under construction and development, which focuses on the tourism of the unique and beautiful natural sights.

Zhangjiajie Climate & Weather:  

Zhangjiajie belongs to the sub-tropical humid monsoon climate, with comfortable four seasons, abundant rainfall and sunshine. The annual average temperature of Zhangjiajie is 16oC. With an average temperature of the hottest month 24.3 oC  and an average temperature of the coldest month 0.8 oC , it has a pleasant weather for the growth of plants and animals, and also for sightseeing.

Language in Zhangjiajie:  Zhangjiajie has its own dialect, which belongs to Hunan dialect, a sub branch of Southern Dialect. Mandarin speakers cannot understand it very easily.
 

Zhangjiajie Transportation:   As a city emphasizing on tourism, the transportation of Zhangjiajie is taken as convenient and efficient. We suggest tourists to take the professional travel service from licensed travel agencies and ignore any strangers’ services outside the airport or railway station.

By Air:  Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport offers flights to Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Chengdu, Changsha, Xian, Qingdao, Shenyang, Xiamen, Hangzhou and Nanjing, etc. It is about 5 kilometers from Zhangjiajie City center. There are airport shuttle buses available outside the airport exit for taking passengers to downtown, which costs about CNY 5.

By Train:  Through Shichang (Shimen to Changsha) Railway and other main railway routes, tourists can get to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanning, Guiyang and Yichang, etc. from Zhangjiajie.

By Bus:  There is one long-distance bus station in Zhangjiajie, located at the intersection of Huilong Road and Renmin Road. Passengers can get to the nearby tourist destinations of Changde, Jishou, Fenghuang and Changsha from this bus station. Zhangjiajie City offers ten bus routes daily from 6:00 to 20:30, and the ticket price is mostly CNY 1. Bus No. 4 takes passengers to the airport and bus No. 1, 2, 6 and 7 take passengers to the railway station.

By Taxi: The flag-down fare is CNY 3. CNY 1.6 is charged per kilometer after the first 1.6 kilometers. Zhangjiajie is a small city and it costs about the flag-down rate to get around within the city area. Please ask the taxi driver to go by the meter and get the receipt.

Zhangjiajie Food:  Zhangjiajie food is a combination of Tujia Minority style and the essence of Xiang(Hunan) Cuisine. The signature dishes of this area are blood curd, preserved pork, acid fish and black chicken-bone soup with gastrodia tuber, etc. Yindu Tujia Restaurant in Zhangjiajie Scenic Spot is an ideal place to try some game meat.

Tourist Attractions:  Zhangjiajie has a lot of tourism resources, among which the major attractions are Wulinyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area comprising of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Tianzishan mountain ranges, Baofeng Lake and Suoxi Valley, Huanglong Cave, and Longwang Cave in Zhangjiajie area.
