Zhoushan Overview: Formerly transliterated as Chusan, Zhoushan is a prefecture-level city in northeastern Zhejiang province, People's Republic of China. It is the only prefecture-level city consisting solely of islands. It is located at the junction of the southeast seashore and the entrance to the sea of Yangtze River, backing Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo City, facing the Pacific Ocean. In the center of China-mainland sea line, Zhoushan is the main door and thoroughfare for the external opening of Yangtze Delta. 1390 islands are just like a string of pearl casted on the vast China East Sea. Known for fish and salt and, convenience of boats", it is rich and beautiful with unique sea port scenery.

Zhoushan Climate & Weather: Zhoushan has typical oceanic monsoon climate and being on the flank of sub-tropic, which renders Zhoushan plenty of sea products throughout four seasons.
Language in Zhoushan: Zhoushan islanders are not very proficient in Mandarin. They speak Ningbo Dialect, a variant of the Wu dialects, and also Shanghai dialect.
Zhoushan Transportation:
By Air: Zhoushan Mount Putuo Airport is situated on Zhujiajian Island. The newly-built Strait Bridge joins with Zhoushan main-island. The airport has many flight lines available to Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, Jinjiang, etc. and the exclusive charter planes to Hongkong.
By Bus: A highway network with over 1100 km traffic mileage. The passenger car and truck can reach all the nationwide places by strait automobile ferry. Now, more than 70 lines of long distance car routes have been opened and more than 120 towns can be directly reached. The East Sea Bridge from Shanghai to Xiaoyangshan is opened and the mainland-island connecting project from Zhoushan to Ningbo also completed. Moreover, there are many other islands that have direct transport facility to Zhoushan Main Island.
Water Transportation: Transportation by sea is very convenient. There are more than 60 passenger lines connecting the islands with the mainland. The freight transport routes extend in all directions, south to Guangdong, Hainan, north to Dalian, Dandong, west to the cities in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. The ocean transport line can reach Hongkong, Macao, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore etc.
